Am I Being a Good Christian Parent?

Dear Joshua:

I’m a single parent of 3 small children, ages 2, 4 and 7. I still let them believe in Santa, the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy – even though I also teach them about God and Jesus. A lady from my church told me this is really bad and that I am not being a good Christian parent by allowing this. What do you think?

Dear Distressed:

happy childGo ahead and let your kids believe in the big bearded guy in the fuzzy red suit, the bunny who brings candy, and fairies that leave money under their pillow. Let ‘em believe it ‘til they’re old enough to figure out what’s what.

Once they’ve enjoyed those perks of being a child (Remember how much fun it was?) encourage them to make Christ the focal-point of their life. Do it intelligently. Do it with patience. Do it via leading by example. Make it fun for them. Explain all the benefits that come with having Jesus in their life. Benefits that no bunnies, elves or fairies could ever provide.

Sincerely yours,

P.S. Ask God for guidance with what I just shared with you. I am NOT infallible! I could be wrong about this matter. I know a lot of “good” Christians who would not agree with my advice on this.

P.P.S. I’m curious to hear people’s thoughts about this whole thing down in the COMMENTS section below. Feel free to give your two cents on the matter.
